The effects of the newer azole fungicides BAS 480F, flusilazole, and tebuconazole on growth and sterol composition of the plant pathogenic fungi Botrytis cinerea, Pyrenophora teres, Pyricularia oryzae, Rhynchosporium secalis, Ustilago maydis and Erysiphe graminis f.sp. hordei were compared with those of flutriafol and propiconazole. The results indicate that all the compounds are inhibitors of sterol 14alpha-demethylase, and rule out any additional modes of action on sterol biosynthesis.
