This study reports the levels of five trace elements in a rural non-mineralized area of Dyfed, Wales. The area is thought not to have been polluted industrially, but threshold values, above which soils would be contaminated, are presented. The trace-element contents are similar in the main soil series and particle-size groups because of the common source of all the drift deposits: Lower Palaeozoic mudstone and sandstone. The areal distribution of the elements is shown using computer-drawn maps and the patterns discussed. RESP-8125
