Hydrogen sulphide is partially oxidised by iron(III) when soils containing sulphide and iron(III) oxide are acidified. Satisfactory recoveries of hydrogen sulphide are obtained by using a solution of tin(II) chloride in hydrochloric acid to decompose the sulphide. RESP-5825
