This article is an extension of that published in the Silver Jubilee souvenir volume of the Indian Society of Biochemical Chemists. A method for extracting protein from leaves developed at the Rothamsted Experimental Station is explained. Dr Pirie makes a plea for the introduction of several institutes and teaching departments devoted to biochemical engineering.
