Abstract

Ethirimol seed dressings usually increased the yields of Zephyr and Sultan barley more than those of other cultivars less susceptible to mildew. However, Julia and Vada also responded well, especially in experiments where brown rust was common. Julia and Vada have some resistance to foliage diseases other than mildew and this may affect their apparent response to fungicides applied to control mildew. Different amounts of nitrogen fertilizer affected the benefit from ethirimol seed dressings as well as total yield.
