Abstract

Head-capsule measurements on larvae of Sitona lineatus (L.) collected on beans (Vicia faba) in southern England in 1980 showed that there were 5 larval instars. Final-instar larvae, pupae and adults showed some sexual dimorphism, the head-capsule width of female larvae being about 9% wider than that of males. The distance across the eyes of female pupae and adult females, respectively, was 10 and 12% more than that of the corresponding males.
