Abstract

This article is of wide interest because it illustrates how a planned investigation with a statistical analysis of the results can disclose the sources of variations in the results of chemical analyses and give measures of the errors. Readers who are interested only in the practical conclusions may confine their attention to Part I; Part II is for those who are interested also in the statistical basis of the conclusions.
