Abstract

In this chapter, we study the spatio-temporal dynamics of plant disease epidemics using a more mechanistic modeling approach. The chapter starts with two examples of the expansion of plant diseases, and based on these examples, some key questions will be posed. These questions will be answered using a model for the spatial expansion of plant diseases. Through the developed models, we expand the overall understanding of epidemics. Finally, we then show an example of how to apply the derived models to evaluate a disease control strategy.
