Abstract

This is a commissioned commentary article highlighting the two papers from the Friesen laboratory presenting the cloning of new Parastagonospora nodorum necrotrophic effector genes, SnTox5 and SnTox267, that were recently published in the New Phytologist (Kariyawasam et al., 2021, doi: 10.1111/nph.17602; Richards et al., 2021, doi: 10.1111/nph.17601).
